Why I Created Lumastool
After 18 years of festivals, I've carried a lot of gear I never used, and left behind the one thing I needed. I set out to create one piece of festival gear so useful that carrying it always feels worth it.
Every piece of festival gear seemed to solve one problem and create another:
Inflatable Couches
Comfortable... until you had to carry one all day.
Bulky, took up valuable space, and always seemed to need inflating or packing away.
Totems
Great for finding friends. Until everyone is together...
Once your group was reunited, you're stuck with a sign that blocks other's view.
Bags
They carried your gear, but that was about it.
Most bags simply held your belongings without solving any of the challenges you faced throughout the day.
Tables & Chairs
Always useful... rarely there when you needed one.
Whether it was eating, setting down a drink, playing a game, or simply taking a break, a table or chair never seemed to be around when you actually needed it.
That's when we asked ourselves one simple question.
So I asked one simple question:

We designed Lumastool to be useful. We didn't expect how much safer it would make us feel in a crowd.

Keep Your Belongings Safer
The seat doubles as a clean, raised surface, and the bag's zipper pocket sits against your body where pickpockets can't easily reach.

Unlike bulky chairs or air couches, Lumastool doesn't get in the way.
It comfortably fits beneath you or between your legs while standing in tighter crowds.
When the crowd becomes even busier, simply retract it and store it back in the bag within seconds.

The more we used Lumastool, the more we realized it wasn't solving just one problem. It was solving dozens of small moments throughout the day, the ones that make you stop and think:

Those are the moments we designed Lumastool for.

It's the gear you're grateful you brought.
Every detail is deliberate
We didn't want the carrying bag to feel like an accessory. We wanted it to feel like part of the product. That philosophy guided every design decision, from the artwork and materials to the way Lumastool feels to carry and use every day.
The Mushroom Design
Every mushroom dot on both the stool and the bag was intentionally sized and positioned to create a clean, recognizable mushroom design. Large enough to instantly read as a mushroom, yet balanced enough to stay stylish, wearable, and something you'll be proud to carry.
The pattern flows seamlessly from the stool to the bag, so they feel like one complete product rather than two separate pieces.
A Bag Built for Everyday Use
The adjustable strap supports multiple carrying styles, and the water-resistant Oxford cloth was chosen for durability. The zippered pocket rests against your body, keeping your valuables close as you move through a crowd.
Comfort That Was Tested
We tested multiple foam densities before choosing the one that offered the best balance of comfort, support, and stability.
Whether you're taking a quick break or relaxing for a longer set, we wanted Lumastool to feel as good as it looks.
From Prototype to Production
Our prototype: Everything shown on this page is our current pre-production sample, photographed and filmed as it works today.
What we designed: We designed the stool's colorway and mushroom print, the lighting modes, and the matching cushioned crossbody bag with its zippered pocket. Every detail was refined so the stool and bag work together as one product.
Our manufacturing partner: We partnered with an experienced manufacturer that specializes in retractable stools. During development, we reviewed and refined four different samples to get the quality, comfort, and finish right.
Our experience: This is our first Kickstarter, but not our first time building something. Lumastool is backed by 18 years of festival experience and 6 years of running a sewing and retail business. We know firsthand what festivalgoers need, and what it takes to deliver a product people are glad they bought.
Lumastool is created by Lumastool LLC, based in Mesa, Arizona.
Every design decision, from the artwork to the materials, was made with one goal in mind:
To create something beautiful, functional, and something you'll be proud to carry wherever your adventures take you.

Maximum Load Capacity: Existing TÜV Rheinland testing recorded a maximum load of 157 kg (346 lbs).
We’re working with our manufacturer to clarify the appropriate weight rating and explore additional strength and durability testing. Our priority is providing a safe, reliable product.

Factories typically close for several weeks around Chinese New Year in early February, so we’ve built that into our timeline, and we’re moving as quickly as possible to get production done before then. We’d rather give you an honest estimate than make a promise we can’t keep. We’ll post an update at every step, so you’ll always know where your Lumastool is.
